We know about Sophie's World, Lonely Girl 15 and other online soaps, but we haven't heard very much about these for a while now. Lonely Girl 15 went from online to crossmediaal (we just love that!) But we wonder whether people will continue to follow these concepts in the future (sometimes called 'web series') after the shift has been made between media?
In the Netherlands, it's less known, though we're not entirely sure if the Dutch have really discoverd it yet? And if so, are they as interesting as a few years ago? Has the buzz worn off or is it a niche within a niche? The online soap is a super idea, really, we would just love to combine video on demand with the traditional soap idea and a dash interactivity but without the overkill. We imagine there would be an avid array of followers here too, but it seems to remain so underground this side of the continent, such a shame, when it has so much to offer and is such a multi-platform heaven for all to take advantage of - that is, if used properly and communicated well.
The digital soap and in particular the interactive soap is not dead, sleeping or only available across the ocean, no way and if you think it is, you're wrong - Watch this space!
