Dear Future me

Last week I opened my email and found an e-mail in my inbox from myself. It started with: Dear future me.

On a sunday in 2007 I sendt myself an email from Dear future me. This is a website who will save this email and send it two years later to me. I'd never thought about that email anymore and when I read it I had to laugh a lot!

So now I want you guys to be inspired and to write an email to yourself and find it back in your inbox two years later.

Swordfish Media develop Social Media Press Release

Swordfish Media and Fleishman Hillard have developed and launched a Social Media Press Release (SMPR) tool - with a difference! The first client to utilise the tool is Nokia with the launch of their Nokia 5800 Xpress Music 'phone.

The SMPR has been developed for journalists and bloggers and offers official textual, photographic and video material which can be easily downloaded at high quality, collaborated for future reference or added to social bookmarking sites such as Del.i.cious, Technorati, Facebook and more.

Fleishman Hillard asked Swordfish Media to develop the design and technical implementation for the SMPR tool. The objective was to create a tool which is not only functional but unlike other social media pr tools, create a pleasing design experience for the journalists and bloggers which use it.

This is Nokia's first press release using social media as a tool. In the future Fleishman Hillard will utilise this SMPR tool to present new products within the social media networking arena.

The SMPR tool can be viewed and used at the Nokia Social Media site

Where online takes us to

We all know that online is becoming a mass media within itself. We can pretty much reach just about any group online as much as you could offline. Of course location, internet usage penetration will play a role, but the threat of internet becoming a replacement for television is still quite far off. Or is it? Sometimes we think the last and this often occurs when we realise that people won't go from passive to active and then back to passive in the space of 10 minutes. It just doesn't happen. Laptop on your lap as you watch PopStars; yes this does occur, but strangely enough both media are watched/used at the same time – a strange phenomenon, but vastly different from literally removing yourself from the sofa to clamber up the stairs to the PC (or Mac).

Are we all becoming mass multi-taskers?

Evidently there is no real threat to either media taking each other’s role in the world of communications. You have to see it like this: television is for watchers and observers receiving their dose of 'push', whilst internet is for the users and seekers going after their dose of 'pull' TV and internet can strengthen the other if used together, really, but still too few companies (and then I'm talking about the ones with slightly bigger marketing budgets) utilise both effectively.

Ok, so online isn't entirely mass (perhaps we are getting ahead of ourselves)but it's mass media to the niches, so it really does reach the people it's aimed at, a haven for premium brand companies!!

Thank the heavens for the powers of internet, online, digital and cross-media and especially the freedom it gives for all to use, and gain from it. Don't you just love it? And how could we ever live without it?

Digital soaps, anno 2009, where are they?

We know about Sophie's World, Lonely Girl 15 and other online soaps, but we haven't heard very much about these for a while now. Lonely Girl 15 went from online to crossmediaal (we just love that!) But we wonder whether people will continue to follow these concepts in the future (sometimes called 'web series') after the shift has been made between media?

In the Netherlands, it's less known, though we're not entirely sure if the Dutch have really discoverd it yet? And if so, are they as interesting as a few years ago? Has the buzz worn off or is it a niche within a niche? The online soap is a super idea, really, we would just love to combine video on demand with the traditional soap idea and a dash interactivity but without the overkill. We imagine there would be an avid array of followers here too, but it seems to remain so underground this side of the continent, such a shame, when it has so much to offer and is such a multi-platform heaven for all to take advantage of - that is, if used properly and communicated well.

The digital soap and in particular the interactive soap is not dead, sleeping or only available across the ocean, no way and if you think it is, you're wrong - Watch this space!

Her Morning Elegance

Her Morning Elegance is a song from The Opposite Side of the sea, the debut album by Oren Lavie.
This video was viewed by millions of people and embedded in thousands and thousands of blogs.

We love this video-clip!!! It is a wonderful way to tell a dream!!!

And now some cool info about this video (from Sunil)

+ The music video was shot using stills - roughly 3225 still photos for the entire video, using one camera, hanging from the ceiling for the main body of the movie.
+ It took 4 weeks before shooting to create an animated computer generated storyboard for the video, with 3d dummies for the characters.
+ It took only 2 days of shooting for the live actors on set to re-create the 3.5 minutes computer sequence, frame by frame.
+ Some of the bed sheets used in the video were taken from Oren’s own bedroom and are now considered collectors items, worth at the moment not very much and therefore used as bed sheets.
+ Each of the wonderfully talented people above have worked on the video for a fraction of their normal rates (except Oren who worked for his normal rate of zero).
